Flag Etiquette used today on a sailing boat

Flags are naval signals and each one means something specific about your sailing boat. They can signal your boat’s nationality, special maneuvering situations, sailing club affiliation, office held or other situations. For the correct etiquette, following are some of the rules. You have to remember that the rules originated in Britain and have been slightly altered by other English-speaking countries.  Flags are ‘worn’ by a yacht and ‘flown’ by the owner.

Flags commonly worn by a yacht comprise

an ensign

a burgee,

a house flag (Private Signal),

a courtesy flag when in another country

a racing flag (if racing)

All above flags can be custom manufactured by the flag company www.customflagshop.com  including custom burgees, custom house flags etc.
