Vermont State Flag

Vermont State Flag was adopted in 1923. Until 1804, Vermont used the state’s famed militia’s flag as its state flag. It was a green flag of the Green Mountain Boys. From 1804 to 1923, the official state flags were two slightly varying version of the United States flag. To eleminate the confusion caused by the similarity of the state flag to US flag, Vermont made the governor’s flag with the state coat of arms on it and a motto was added against the background. That new design became the official state flag in 1923.
