The Berlin City Flag has three red-white-red stripes, with each of the two outer stripes taking up one-fifth of the flag’s height and the remaining stripe taking up the three-fifths. On the state flag, it bears the coat of arms of Berlin, while on the city flag, it is embellished with a bear. West Berlin’s municipal flag was approved on May 26, 1954. After Germany’s reunification in 1990, this flag, which had been the state flag of West Berlin, was adopted as the symbol of the whole city. The flag was designed by Ottfried Neubecker. The aspect ratio of the flag is 3×5.
