In the 1970s, American environmentalists predominantly employed the Ecology Flag as a cultural icon. It represents people’s dedication to preserving the environment. On October 25, 1969, Ron Cobb produced an environment symbol and released it into the public domain. The shape of the sign is evocative of the Greek letter and is made by combining the letters “e” and “o” from the phrases “environment” and “organism” (Theta). Furthermore, the design has thirteen stripes of green and white horizontally, with green representing pristine land and white fresh air.
