The First Navy Jack is a historical American flag that was used by the Continental Navy during the American Revolutionary War. Its design is a flag of thirteen horizontal stripes of red and white, with a yellow and red snake stretched out in the middle. There is the inscription “DONT TREAD ON ME” under the snake. The flag is considered an important symbol of American independence and freedom, and is still used by the United States Navy today as a naval jack, a flag flown from the bow of a ship to indicate the presence of the commander in chief of the fleet.
