The Indianapolis City Flag features a dark blue background with a white five-pointed star pointing up in the center. An region of crimson hue surrounds the star. It is a pattern that encircles the red region and divides the space into four equal blue portions with four white lines traveling from top to bottom and from the crane to the plane. The white ring and the stripes are both the same width, with the stripes being around one-seventh the breadth of the flag. The red circle’s diameter is around two-ninths the breadth of the flag. The City of Indianapolis approved the present flag design on May 20, 1963. On November 7, 1963, the flag was raised for the first time from the City-County Building.  It was designed by John Herron Art Institute student Roger E. Gohl. The aspect ratio of the flag is 2×3.
