The Leicestershire Flag combines three important symbols of the county’s history and identity. The background of the flag features a red and white dancetté pattern, taken from the coat of arms of Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester. The Cinquefoil, a five-petalled flower, is also included on the flag, as it was a symbol of the de Beaumont Earls of Leicester. The third symbol is a running fox, taken from the county’s crest, which has been used on many of the county’s organizational emblems. The fox represents the county’s connection to hunting and wildlife. The flag was officially registered in 2017 after a competition was held to design a new flag for the county.
