The Middlesex Flag features a design that is a banner of the former Middlesex County Council’s arms, which were abolished in 1965. Although banners of county arms are typically not available for public use, a similar design with Anglo-Saxon Seaxes has been used as a local badge in Middlesex and neighboring Essex for many centuries. The design features a red background with three white seaxes, or Saxon swords, arranged vertically in the center. The seaxes represent the ancient Saxon kingdom of Middlesex, which was an important part of Anglo-Saxon England. The Middlesex flag is therefore both a nod to the region’s history and a symbol of local pride.
