The sub-national flag of Canada’s Northwest Territories is known as the Northwest Territories flag. In 1969, the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly approved it. The flag has a blue region with a Canadian pale (a white line that spans half of the flag’s width), in the middle of which is a shield from the Northwest Territory’s coat of arms. White stands for snow and ice, while blue signifies the copious waterways of the Northwest Land. The flag has a 1:2 aspect ratio.
