Portugal Flag

(1 customer review)

The Portugal Flag features a rectangular design with two vertical stripes of green on the hoist side and red on the fly side. The green stripe represents hope and the country’s forests, while the red stripe symbolizes the Portuguese revolution and the blood shed during battles. In the center of the flag, there is a coat of arms consisting of a shield with a blue and white curved armillary sphere (an astronomical instrument), surrounded by seven castles representing the fortified towns of Portugal, and five smaller shields known as the Quinas, each displaying five blue dots, each of which represents one of the country’s five Moorish kings. The flag was officially adopted on June 30, 1911, after the country became a republic, and its design has remained largely unchanged since then.
