The Wichita City Flag was adopted on June 14, 1937. It was designed by Cecil McAlister, a local artist from Southern Wichita. The Native American symbol for permanent ‘home’ is sewn to the blue sun. The three red and white rays extending from the off-center blue sun represent the path of freedom to come and go as one wishes. The blue sun in the center represents happiness and contentment. The proportions of the flag are 2×3.
